In June 2024, Kids Acting With Purpose launched a transformative experience for young artists through our Theatre Arts and Media Arts Camp. Sponsored by Meta (Facebook), this immersive 12-week program brought together aspiring performers and creators ages 9 to 17, offering in-depth training across multiple disciplines—including acting, dancing, singing, and media arts.
From the first week, students jumped into hands-on learning with the guidance of skilled instructors and mentors. Through dynamic classes and personalized coaching, they explored the fundamentals of performance while building the confidence and technique needed to shine on stage and behind the scenes. Our media training sessions, featuring professional-grade camera equipment, gave students an exciting introduction to film and digital media, allowing them to gain a holistic view of storytelling.
The camp culminated in a remarkable production of Harriet: Take My Hand and Follow Me, a powerful play depicting the life and legacy of Harriet Tubman. Through this production, our young artists had the chance to bring historical stories to life, mastering their roles through heartfelt acting, moving choreography, and compelling vocal performances. As students rehearsed and worked on scenes, they connected with themes of resilience, freedom, and justice—fostering a deeper understanding of history and culture.
The final performance was met with an audience filled with family, friends, and community members, all of whom were deeply moved by the young performers’ dedication and talent. Watching their hard work come to fruition on stage was a proud moment for everyone involved, as students demonstrated their growth as both artists and individuals.
Beyond the stage, the Theatre Arts and Media Arts Camp provided our students with essential life skills, from teamwork and communication to self-confidence and discipline. Thanks to the generous support of Meta, our students had access to valuable resources and training, empowering them to discover new interests and embrace their creative voices.
Our 2024 summer camp stands as a testament to the power of arts education, offering young people a platform to explore, connect, and inspire. We look forward to many more summers of growth, creativity, and community at Kids Acting With Purpose!
